He Was There All the Time

By Jane Andrews

I dare say that all of us have times of wandering and wondering about the purpose of our life.
Why am I here?
Who is God?
Who is Jesus?
Who is the Holy Spirit?
Where do I find them?
Why do I need them in my life?
Does prayer really matter?
What are my gifts?
What is the next step in my life?
Lots of questions plague us. Sometimes they have caused us to wander away from our purpose, our family, and our values in search of answers.

The only person who always knew His purpose, His God and never wandered or wondered was Jesus. The rest of us have hurdles, pain, hardships and sin to overcome. Sometimes we lose our way and get lost in the culture in which we live. Sometimes we make poor choices and then live with the consequences. Sometimes we feel all alone and can’t seem to find our way back to our family, our purpose, our God. Sometimes we believe the lies that Satan whispers in our ear – that we are losers; God doesn’t care about us; we’ve committed a sin way too big to ever be forgiven and on it goes.

BUT, the truth is, we’re only a breath away from our God and His Son Jesus and the Holy Spirit. God loves us unconditionally. He knows the purpose and plan for our life. His Son, Jesus, did for us what we could never do for ourselves – He died to set us free from sin and death and He has the desire and power to heal us in every way. The Holy Spirit teaches us His way and convicts our conscience when we’re about to make or have made a sinful choice. Wow! What a God! There is no God like Him. He is the One and Only. And He’s been there all the time.

A short time ago I ‘lost’ a valuable piece of jewelry. I searched everywhere it could have been – not once, but several times. I tried to remember the last time I had worn it. Then one day when I wasn’t looking for it, I opened my jewelry box and there it was! I couldn’t believe it – it was there all the time. In my joy of finding this treasure, the words of a song came to mind and it reminded me of the truth about my purpose and my God.

HE WAS THERE ALL THE TIME

Time after time I went searching for peace in some void,
I was trying to blame all my ills on this world I was in;
Surface relationships used me ‘til I was done in,
And all the while someone was begging to free me from sin.
He was there all the time,
He was there all the time;
Waiting patiently in line,
He was there all the time.
Never again will I look for a fake rainbow’s end,
Now that I have the answer my life is just starting to rhyme;
Sharing each new day with Him is a cup of fresh life.
O what I missed! He’s been waiting right there all the time.
