Sanctification

Sanctification: What does it mean?

There are no plateaus in this life. Once we become a Christian and make a concise decision to follow God’s plan for our life, we realize that we never reach perfection. As we strive to improve ourselves, we are aware of the fact that there are more improvements needing to be made.

Here’s an example:
I work with cattle. My herd of cows was a whole lot easier to work with when I was in charge of three cows and two heifers. The herd has grown. In order to manage a larger herd I need to improve my management skills to facilitate that larger herd. The problems involving three cows and two heifers are problems no longer.

Another example would be the problem I have with anger. What I used to allow myself to get angry about is a thing of the past. As I grow in my relationship with Christ, those things don’t bother me. But, because of my growth I am confronted with more intensified circumstances that challenge me.

Taken from Definitions for Dictionary.com:

Sanctification:

"The more holy a man is, the more humble, self-renouncing, self-abhorring, and the more sensitive to every sin he becomes, and the more closely he clings to Christ. The moral imperfections, which cling to him, he feels to be sin, which he laments and strives to overcome. Believers find that their life is a constant warfare, and they need to take the kingdom of heaven by storm, and watch while they pray. They are always subject to the constant chastisement of their Father’s loving hand, which can only be designed to correct their imperfections and to confirm their graces. And it has been notoriously the fact that the best Christians have been those who have been the least prone to claim the attainment of perfection for themselves."

Prayer:

Father, help us to cling to your loving word each and every day of our lives. Help us to cling to Your Son when we consider the choices in our lives. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
