God Does Perform Miracles

By Gaye Alexander

There are times in our lives when circumstances over which we have no control can overwhelm us. It is my fervent belief that during these times Satan has an opportunity to take control unless we keep alert and remember to thank God for His looking out for us during these times and the miracles He gives us.

I recently was hospitalized and would like to share the miracles God bestowed on me. I called a neighbor at 6:30 a.m. to let someone know I had called for an ambulance. This neighbor was at my home before the ambulance arrived, stayed with me, took out my trash, and locked up my house. She also took in my mail and paper while I was hospitalized. While I was in the emergency room, I had an increase in my symptoms which led to me being admitted to a telemetry unit. My blood work showed abnormal liver enzymes which required an ultrasound test which was done later that day.

Day 2: I had an echocardiogram of my heart and was sent directly to have my heart catheterization. Immediately upon arrival I went into an irregular heart rate. My heart vessels were fine. Later that day I had a Spiral CAT scan to check for lung clots and there were no clots. Echocardiogram showed what the doctors thought was a tumor on my mitral valve.

Day 2: Transferred to main telemetry unit to have medicine to put my heart into a normal rhythm. Was told there was no private room. The semiprivate room had no one else in it.Shortly after arrival in the room was told there was a private room available if I wanted it but I was too tired to move again. With medicine my heart returned to a normal rhythm.

Day 3: Went for tests on my esophagus which showed some changes, none of which were going to be severe. Shortly after returning to my room had a roommate. We got along fine and had a lot of nice conversation. Halfway through dinner I had a stroke.

Day 4: Woke up in ICU and later had test for further check of the mitral valve. There was no tumor but there was calcium on the valve.

In case you haven’t figured out all the miracles performed during those five days, I wish to list them for you:

Miracle #1 – Having a neighbor who came over as quickly as she did at such an early hour.

Miracle #2 – Increase in symptoms in ER leading to admittance to a telemetry unit

Miracle #3 – Normal ultrasound.

Miracle #4 – Being in the catheterization lab when my heart rate became irregular. (If this had not happened then, I would have been discharged home, if my heart looked okay).

Miracle #5 – Normal heart catheterization.

Miracle #6 – Normal lung scan.

Miracle #7 – Being in a semi-private room with a person as a roommate who was amicable and we got along well together. If I had been in a private room when the stroke happened... how long before someone found me? She was able to call for a nurse immediately.

Miracle #8 – No tumor on the mitral valve.

As you can see, God does perform miracles in our life. We can choose to acknowledge those miracles or we can blame God for our circumstances.

God asked me to do something for Him on my last day in the hospital. I had a roommate who was going for a heart catheterization that morning and who couldn’t get in touch with her family. The nurses said they were ready for her and she had to go. She was understandably very upset. I ended up doing something I had never done before. So last, but not least, Miracle #9. I asked a stranger if I could pray for her before she went for her test. Her reply was that she would like that indeed and could not thank me enough. (Such a little thing to do for God and one of his children in light of all he had done for me.)

God, we pray that we would be able to see your hand working in our daily lives and to return this gift of yours by helping your children when the occasion presents itself. Amen
