Being Spiritually and Physically
Fit
By Judy Brummeler
jrae38@charter.net
As I sat doing my bible study, I read in I
Timothy that we must not only be physically fit but most important, we need
to be spiritually fit. Almost every magazine, newspaper, and on TV has
something advertising the importance of being physically fit. I do water
exercises 4 days a week and try to walk once or twice a week too. I now have
a bike and hope to work riding this into my exercise plan. Where is my
spiritual fitness? As much as I try to fit it in every day it is often only
if I can fit it I to my busy schedule. As we discipline ourselves to
exercise, so must we include a discipline for our daily time with God. As
Paul states in I Timothy 4: 7-10: "Have nothing to do with godless myths and
old wives’ tales; rather, train yourself to be godly. For physical training
is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise
for both the present life and the life to come. This is a trustworthy saying
that deserves full acceptance (and for this we labor and strive), that we
have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, and
especially of those who believe." Where are you in your journey?
Lord, You are most important in our lives. Help us to be disciplined in
our spiritual life and our physical fitness so we can be fit to carry your
message to others. In Jesus name, Amen
