PASTOR:
“Do the kids at your
elementary school really need a relationship with the member at my church?”
PRINCIPAL:
“Pastor, if your members
do nothing more than stand on our playground to wave at designated children,
they would make a profound impact on the lives of those children.”
What is Kids Hope USA?
KIDS HOPE USA churches
give hope to children in public elementary schools through a relationship
with a caring church member.
H: Helping to
meet the emotional, social, and academic needs of at-risk children by giving
them a one-to-one relationship with a mentor from our church.
O: Owned by our
church. This is a ministry to children and families in our neighborhood.
P: Prayer is the
foundation for our work. A behind the scenes prayer partner from our church
prays for each adult-child relationship.
E: Elementary
school children are our focus. They need mentoring most because they are at
that time when values are formed, self-esteem is developed and critical
academic skills must be acquired.
Looking to the church
for relationships
Why do over 50% of the
requests for KIDS HOPE USA church-based mentoring programs come from
schools? Teachers and principals know that children with emotional, social,
and academic needs are just one person away from believing in themselves.
They need a relationship with at least one caring adult.
Where do you look when
you need loving relationships with caring adults? The neighborhood church,
of course. Because that’s what churches do. KIDS HOPE USA helps churches
build caring relationships with children.
Petoskey United
Methodist Church members are trained to use a weekly one hour meeting at
Ottawa Elementary school to be that one person who helps a child believe in
himself.

I want to BE the one
person who helps a child believe in himself.
I would like more
information about the following KIDS HOPE USA opportunities:
-
MENTOR: give
your love to a child one hour per week at the school.
-
PRAYER PARTNER:
be the person who upholds the child, the mentor, and the relationship
in life changing prayer.
-
SUBSTITUTE MENTOR:
be available to stand in for a mentor who must miss a session.

ONE
to Love a Child
...Kids Hope USA embraces our nation’s youth when they need it most. It
reminds them in a powerful way that someone cares. And it reminds us that we
are part of the same community, the same family, and that we are all gifts
from God.” Colin Powell 1999
“Now to Him who is
able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine...” Eph. 3:20
