Petoskey
United Methodist Church
Worship
Through worship we celebrate the God who created us, loves
us, forgives us, and calls us to Christ-centered living. We ask, "what has God been
up to in our lives this week?" and celebrate those things though music, prayer,
giving, serving and study of Gods Word.
The Petoskey United
Methodist Church is blessed with talent and creativity in the area of worship. We offer
two unique worship experiences, including a contemporary service at 8:45
a.m., and a
traditional service at 11:00 a.m. (In the summer, times change. Please contact the
church for summer times.) The first service provides an informal atmosphere with a
Praise Band. The second service features a variety of musical
experiences, including a Chancel Choir, organ, Bell Choir, Girls Ensemble (high
school), Kings Choir (elementary), and SONshine Kids choir (toddler to age seven).
The 11:00 service is also broadcast on WJML, AM 1110.
Both services are led by Pastor James Mitchum, who
brings a relevant Bible-based message of practical steps for Christ-centered living. The
Childrens Sermon is a highlight of every worship experience as James creatively
engages our imaginations and our hearts through our children.
People of all ages participate in both services. Worship
roles include musicians, sound technicians, scripture readers, acolytes, ushers, greeters,
communion servers, and drama participants. Both services enjoy the creativity of our
Visual Arts Committee as they focus our eyes on the worship theme for particular Sundays
of the year.
Nursery
for ages 0 to 3 years is available during both services.
Occasionally the Sunday morning services are combined to
accommodate the unique needs of various seasons of the year. Special worship services are
also offered throughout the year, including Christmas Eve services, an Ash Wednesday
service, and a Maundy Thursday service.
Each week you will find on
our website a
devotional by
members of our congregation that speaks to a contemporary and relevant issue from a Christian
perspective. You can also find past devotionals
archived online.
